Social problems faced by the inhabitants of the villages of Balceana and Sofia from Hincesti district, quarantined
During the period March 23-27, the People’s Advocate was notified by residents of the villages of Balceana and Sofia from Hincesti district, who invoked several economic and social problems that they face during the period of quarantine of these localities (poor supply with medicines, of products of first necessity, the impossibility to procure seeds for spring works; to pay for the communal services; to procure and refill the gas cylinders for the preparation of dishes and others).
Reaction of the People’s Advocate:
On March 27, the People’s Advocate sent an approach on behalf of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, President of the National Commission for Exceptional Situations, in which he brought to his attention the problems raised by the inhabitants of the respective villages and asked to identify solutions and develop a viable mechanism for organizing the supply of the inhabitants of the quarantined villages with products of strict necessity, medicines etc., as well as for organizing the social life of these localities, so as to ensure, in the existing objective circumstances, the right to a decent living and other human rights.

Officials of the People’s Advocate Office continue to monitor the evolution of the situation in the villages of Balceana and Sofia from Hincesti district, quarantined, a subject addressed in the People’s Advocate’s approach on this March 27, to the National Commission for Exceptional Situations.
Thus, today, April 1, the employees of the institution were informed by the mayors of the two localities that, following the address of the National Commission for Exceptional Situations to the economic agents, other authorities, political parties in the territory, the villages of Balceana and Sofia were provided with various food products needed: potatoes, social packages including sunflower oil, groats, sugar, bread were distributed. Shops in villages already sell recharging cards for mobile phones.
